Item #25: H made it to 1:10 pm, before he was telling me how "all this sh*t" hit him at work. This item is TOUGH. We haven't even managed to go a single DAY without one of swearing!

Sunday, June 29, 2008

June 29, 2008

Item #25: As of 11:45 am ... we were doing fine. And then H, recounting a story, said "What is this sh*t?" and we were humped. LOL. Ah, well, we'll just keep trying!

Item #64: It's still alive! Look!See it? A teeny green tomato, the size of my thumbnail. I think I can keep it alive until Thursday for sure!

June 28, 2008

Item #25: One of these days, we'll get it right. Really early on, H said "crap," and we had to have a discussion about whether or not it was a swear word, and I really thought we'd decided (in a phone call midday) that it wasn't. Then, later, he caught himself saying it, thought it was a swear word, and promptly said, "sh*t". ROFL. We are just amusing the heck out of ourselves with this item. Soon, we'll be spending time with my aunt & uncle, who often swear using words like "golly gee" and "gee whiz," so maybe they'll be a good influence.

Item #40: H forgot to post that he played for 1,600 grains of rice yesterday. This brings our total up to 47,800. I may just play for the remaining 2,200 to round us up to an even 50k. We have so very far to go.

June 27, 2008

Item #25: *sigh* My bad, my bad. We made it to 8:44 pm, this time. So, we're improving our time, at least. I blurted out a swear word as I was being all amusing and envisioning the reaction of the pothole repair crew at a particularly bad road near us. I slapped my hand over my mouth in horror, as soon as I did it, too. And we were laughing so hard as a result. Oh well. We'll try again tomorrow.

June 26, 2008

Item #25: I had a narrow miss around 5:10 pm & was able to modify my words mid-stream, but H blurted out "Goddamnit" at 5:48 pm, so we agreed we'll have to restart tomorrow. Hey, we got a good 6 hours further along than we did yesterday!

Wednesday, June 25, 2008

June 25, 2008

Item #25: H made it about 4 1/2 hours. He has discovered that driving is a big trigger for him. While on his way home for lunch, someone ticked him off & he blurted out "Son of a bitch!," and upon realizing he'd just sworn out loud, cursed "Damn!" and then dropped an F bomb. LOL. So, we're going to try to restart this tomorrow. *grin*

June 24, 2008

Item #55: H had no soda today. He said he's trying for a personal best. I had soda today, unaware that he was trying to extend things. Oh, well.

Tomorrow, we are going to *censor**censor**censor* start Item #25. Heaven help us. We'll need the help.

June 23, 2008

Item #41: H said he might be willing to try one of the cherry dishes at Sweet Tomatoes. I reminded him that he'd already tried cherries, while we were on vacation.

He replied, "Oh, yeah, but those were maraschino cherries."

I responded, "Well, I'm willing to give you a point for those cherries & a point for regular cherries, because they are different from each other."

He said, "Yeah, but one's just grosser than the other."

For the record, he did try a tart cherry from the cherry apple cobbler. He said it was nasty.

Item #55: Day 7 of 7, without soda. We survived! I don't know that we felt any different...and I know I only drink diet soda, so I didn't lose any weight. I'll have to see if H lost any poundage & ask him to weigh himself first thing tomorrow morning. We're looking forward to soda tomorrow!

Item #81: We have so very far to go. LOL. Since we started, in April, we've managed to use up ONE bottle of lotion, and not a very big one at that. And I've resisted the temptation to buy more, about 3 times, reminding myself that we already HAVE more than we can realistically use!

June 22, 2008

Item #49: We grabbed an opportunity & went for a picnic breakfast in a secluded spot. And by secluded, I mean we saw 2 people over the course of about 40 minutes. Countless mosquitoes, mind you, but only 2 people. We think "secluded" is code to mosquitoes for "easy targets." We splashed on some bug spray (okay, not really spray, as the nozzle jammed, but we slopped it on, anyway), and we were left in peace. We had a really gorgeous views of blue sky and verdant forests and meadows. And a couple of butterflies (see below) came back over and over to visit us. With their wings open, they are a brilliant orange with brown spots, but we could only get good shots of them with wings folded. Nice camouflage, eh?Item #55: Day 6 of 7, without soda. We are definitely looking forward to Tuesday. *smile* We have purchased soda, but it sits, warm, in the garage until then. We, again, wanted to have soda on hand to offer houseguests, but made iced tea instead, which they said they enjoyed. They were also rather impressed with our goal.

Item #75: We went for our "June" visit to the Arboretum today ... and this tree was blooming & smelled divine. It was in the section marked "Olive Family" (as well as many other places -- we could find it rapidly if we used our noses), but I have yet to suss out what it is. Anyone have any ideas?

Saturday, June 21, 2008

June 21, 2008

Item #55: We're on day 5 of 7, of no soda. We're missing soda, but it's not killing us. There are all kinds of foods that are "better with soda," so it feels odd to have water or iced tea or lemonade with them instead!

Item #74: We made a couple of purchases today that could've gone on a credit card, but we used our bank accounts instead!

Item #79: I neglected to mention that H brought in to work some toffee biscotti & chocolate chip banana walnut bread I made!

I had a really long day. I'm about ready to crash!

Friday, June 20, 2008

June 20, 2008

Item #55: Day 4 of 7 without soda. H says "believe me, it's freakin' tough!" I'm not struggling as much, but I do think "hey, this'd be good with a soda," and have to settle for an iced tea or water. Non-bubbly drinks are just not as appealing, I guess!

Thursday, June 19, 2008

June 19, 2008

Item #55: Day 3 without soda. 4 more days to go. We're discovering that it's kind of a bummer not to have soda on hand to offer guests, but, hey, it's only for a few more days. Oddly enough, after working outside, dripping with sweat for an hour, I really didn't want a soda -- tall cool lemonade, yes. Large glass of water, yes. Sweetened iced tea, yes. Soda, no! Here's the results of my hard labor:Item #64: We said we wanted to "grow something". Well, in the above photo are a tomato plant, an oregano plant, a daisy, and 2 coreopsis plants. There are also lots and lots of zinnia seeds hiding underneath the layer of dirt. I'm not quite sure how we'll decide if we've successfully completed this item. I think maybe if they're all still alive in 2 weeks, it'll count. *grin* So, check back on July 3rd to see how we're doing!

Item #72: It's not much, but I got a $10 rebate check, so I put it right into a savings account. Only $990 to go! *laugh*

Item #74: H needed to get his car attended to & asked for the credit card, but didn't use it, because I'd squirreled away some money for contingencies, so we didn't even have to dig it out!

Wednesday, June 18, 2008

June 18, 2008

Item #40: I made it to level 48 on freerice.com, plus I played for 5,000 grains of rice, bringing our total to 45,000! H informed me at lunch that he played for 1,200 grains yesterday, too ... so we're up to 46,200!

Item #55: Day 2/7 without soda. I wanted a caffeine free diet coke tonight, when I was baking ... but otherwise, haven't had any interest in it. I'll need to remember not to have any while out at lunch and dinner tomorrow! H said he's getting a bit tired of "mountain spring water," but he's started digging into the Arizona tea, so he's got some variety. We also both had Crystal Light Raspberry Lemonade with dinner ... so I should probably make up another batch of that, since we're liking it.

Gotta go get out the toffee biscotti from the oven & put a glaze on the lime-coconut-banana bread!

June 17, 2008

Item #17: This is the last day of spending 20 minutes a day giving our cats TLC. Somewhat amusingly, they're pretty much totally ignoring us. I predict as soon as we stop trying to give them attention, they'll be trying to trip us up for more attention!

Item #40: We are trying to play for rice more often, realizing that if we don't get in about 1,000 grains of rice a day, we won't make our 1,000,000 total!

Item #55: First day of a week with no soda. It's not too hard so far ... but I suspect it will be. I had lemonade at lunch & H had water. At dinner, we had water. I had iced tea mid-afternoon. I bought several different kinds of non-carbonated beverages at the grocery store this afternoon, so that should help.

Item #84: I neglected to mention that my mom & dad brought up their ravioli maker/form over the weekend so we can complete this item. Is that cool or what?!

Monday, June 16, 2008

June 16, 2008

Item #17: Day 13/14 of spending 20 minutes a day giving our cats TLC.

Item #40: I played for 1,220 grains of rice, to bring our total up to an even 40,000!

Item #55: We talked about it ... and tomorrow, we're going to start our week of having no soda. I've brewed iced tea & made raspberry lemonade to help. It might be smart for me to also stock some bottles of water.

Sunday, June 15, 2008

June 15, 2008

Item #17: More time with the cats. I think they're getting bored with us. We go to give them attention & they're all "whatever" and scoot away. I didn't think it was possible for them to have their fill of TLC ... but maybe I was wrong!

Item #46: We went to the zoo today, and although we saw notes on some of the classes they offer, none of them struck our fancy. We did, however, get to see some great animals. Here's a photo from the day.

Photobucket

June 14, 2008

Item #17: More time with cats. They are starting to just take us for granted again, and just show up randomly for attention. Thus one cycle endeth and another beginneth. LOL. Day 11 of 14.

Item #64: We bought a tomato plant! I need to get some dirt for our giant planter & set it up with some supports...and hopefully it'll keep on growing. It's a "Mountain Spring" variety ... supposedly an heirloom. Let's see what happens!

Item #75: I'm not sure if I can count a visit to the Arboretum for June or not. H did not go with me, as he was feeling pretty wiped out. I don't think it counts, though. Still, I got a cool shot of a dragonfly!

Photobucket

Item #86: The local farmers' market started up for business today! We bought strawberries, sugar snap peas, asparagus, onions, bread, muffins, caramel corn, cucumbers, and a red bell pepper. SA-WEET! 1 down, 9 to go. And this is going to be a fun one to tackle!

I got back in!!

After days of not being able to remember my password I finally hit upon the one that let me back into the blog! Having to remember the multitude of passwords in my life is starting to make me long for the care free days before computers *grin*

Anyhoo....I logged another 1200 grains of rice! Yay me!

Oh and I'm not sure if my wife mentioned that we checked off more restaraunts for #99! Go us!

Thursday, June 12, 2008

June 12, 2008

Item #17: LOTS of time with the cats today. I had a very trying series of days & today was just too too much, so I actually, out of all normalcy (for me) curled up on the bed with H & the cats & had a cuddling session. Very restorative. Thanks all of you!

Wednesday, June 11, 2008

June 11, 2008

Item #17: The cats have mellowed out a bit recently, thank goodness. They sure are soaking up the TLC, though ... I don't know if this'll become a habit or not. I think maybe so!

Item #35: I received an email today over my lunch hour that Cirque du Soleil tickets went on sale. Dang ... I visited the site 2 minutes later & the section we wanted only had 17 seats available. I didn't stop to consult H ... I just snapped 'em up. The timing works out nicely -- the show will be shortly after our 5th anniversary! So, I don't feel bad about splurging a bit! (and in keeping with Item #74, although I charged them to a credit card (just a convenience/safety thing online), I am paying that exact amount towards the credit card tomorrow!)

Item #40: I played for 2,000 more grains on FreeRice.Com ... and got up to level 47! *grin*

Tuesday, June 10, 2008

June 10, 2008

Item #17: I'm about to go spend more time with the cats. They're following us around more and more. I fear one of them will trip me up.

Item #99: We were forced to try a new restaurant, Carrabba's, because the one we intended to take H's mom to, for her birthday (the one we thought might be our new favorite and that we wanted to share with a dozen people), was closed, permanently! We were just there on 5/23 ... and apparently since then, they ended business. Frustrating and sad, all wrapped up into one! We did like Carrabba's, even if the waiter was less than stellar. We may go back.

Hey. I just remembered, H's mom took us to a new local restaurant (the Islamorada Fish Company) on 6/1, which was utterly forgettable, attached to a Bass Pro Shop (no kidding! She'd been to 2 that were stellar, but this location was a dud!), so that counts towards #99 as well!

June 9, 2008

Item #17: played with cats! I think they're coming to us more and more, now, for even more attention!!!

Sunday, June 8, 2008

June 8, 2008

It's been a rather stormy day today. We were under a severe thunderstorm warning, which brought this weather:Now we're under a tornado watch, so I'm updating the blog, then powering down the computer & keeping an ear out for the sirens.

Item #17: More time with the cats. They're soaking it up. It's pathetic!

Item #74: We made some plans for a fall vacation & I went above-and-beyond & although we paid for part of it with a credit card, I put the same amount towards the credit card right away!

Saturday, June 7, 2008

June 7, 2008

Item #17: Day 4 of 14, of spending 20 minutes a day dedicated to giving our cats attention. If anything, I think they're becoming MORE clingy. How weird is THAT?

Friday, June 6, 2008

June 6, 2008

Posting pretty late as we just got back from seeing Prince Caspian. *grin*

Item #17: More quality time with our cats, lots of snuggles for them. They can't get enough! Day 3 of 14.

Item #40: H played for 2260 more grains of rice!

Off to bed ... we've got a busy day tomorrow!

Thursday, June 5, 2008

June 5, 2008

Lots of fun progress today!

Item #17: More quality time with our cats. And they are loving it! *grin* And I'm going through lint roller sheets fast, with all the fur they're kicking up! Day 2 of 14.

Item #54: We took our dance lesson tonight. I had lots of fun & H admitted he did, too, so we scheduled another lesson for 2 weeks from now!

Item #59: It was with unmitigated glee that we plotted to pay for the people behind us at the drive-through at our favorite ice cream place. The clerk had no problem with our request & said he'd let the people know we'd paid for their ice cream! Totally fun!!!

Wednesday, June 4, 2008

June 4, 2008

We looked over our long list of remaining items & decided to tackle Item #17. Sere & Is very happily curled up with me on the couch for lots of TLC ... and Comet is entangled with H, right now, both of them reading on the bed. So, one day down, 13 to go. The cats are loving it!

Helpful site!

To help us with Item #86 I found this very cool website: Agrihappenings. It's only for our state ... but still, I think it's pretty cool. Now, we just have to find a way to locate someone for Item #14! Any ideas from any locals? Any really good roadside vegetable or fruit sellers that you know of? Any locations we should try to hit? Right now, our plan involves wandering back roads, which can be fun in and of itself. *grin*

Tuesday, June 3, 2008

June 3, 2008

Item #74: Well, now that we're back from vacation, we're biting the bullet & tackling this one. We're going to avoid using credit cards for 6 months. The exceptions are (1) bonafide emergencies (2) travel expenses (hotels, rental cars, etc., which necessitate using them) and (3) making internet purchases. The latter 2 will basically be dealt with by paying towards the credit card for the amount to be spent, ahead of time. The point is to keep our debt from getting any larger & for us to be more conscious of using our cash, not our credit line!

Item #81
: I forgot to mention that although I desperately wanted to bring back the soaps, lotions, shampoos, and conditioners that had piled up on our bathroom vanity in our hotel room at Disney, I did leave them behind. It was hard, though! The only thing that kept me from doing it was remembering that this is one of our challenges. We need less of the stuff, not more!
